Jasper Vitse

Jasper Vitse is a second-year PhD researcher in the Civil Engineering Department at KU Leuven. Prior to starting his PhD research, he earned a master’s degree in Civil Engineering at KU Leuven - Bruges. He joined the iR and RecyCon research group in July 2021 while working on his master’s thesis ‘Building on Mars: geopolymers from in-situ resources’, for which he was awarded the ie-net audience prize in 2022. Beside this, Jasper took part in the Geopolymer Camp in Saint-Quentin, France, in 2022 and 2023. His research focuses on the mechanical properties of natural fiber-reinforced alkali-activated concrete, demonstrating the environmental benefits of a combined use of construction and demolition waste and natural fibers. He is interested in assessing potential low carbon construction materials with high performances when subjected to different loading conditions.
