She joins us via an Erasmus program, and works with Dr. Dawid Kasprzak on bio-based materials for zinc-ion energy storage systems.

ZEST is selected for Horizon-MSCA DN funding.
The proposed project ZEST: Doctoral network on zinc energy storage technology that Prof. Veerle Vandeginste coordinates is selected for funding by Horizon Europe.

Natalia Tsoukala starts a three-month internship in the group.
She joins us via an Erasmus+ program, and works with Hytham Hassan on adaptive materials for shoe insoles for diabetic patients.

Jacob's Rubel's paper is published in RSC Advances.
His paper on Transformation of glass fiber reinforced epoxy from waste printed circuit boards to adsorbents for effective CO2 storage in abandoned mines is published. This work was a collaboration with Dr. Pavla Eliasova and Dr. Martin Kubu from Charles University, and Prof. Yukun Ji from China University of Mining and Technology.

ECOSPHERE is selected for FWO funding.
Prof. Vandeginste is awarded funding for her proposed FWO senior fundamental research project ECOSPHERE: Developing bio-inspired carbon-sequested multifunctional coatings and plaster for sustainable buildings through better understanding of the process-structure and structure-property relationships.

He was awarded a Horizon-MSCA postdoctoral fellowship with his proposed research project BioZincPower: Pioneering sustainable energy storage with biopolymer-based zinc-ion systems. Congratulations on the fellowship, and welcome in the iR group!

AWARDS - 17 February 2025
Zeger Van Echelpoel won the Royal Flemish Chemical Society (KVCV) Prize.
Two years in a row! iR group members receive the KVCV awards. The Royal Flemish Chemical Society annually awards its KVCV prizes to the most deserving graduating students within the several chemistry-related programs. Zeger conducted his master's thesis in our group and won the award in the "Master in Industrial Sciences Chemistry" category!
